Ali Prather

Artist

I'm an artist from Louisville, KY, currently living in Lexington, KY. I recently graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BA in Art Studio and Psychology.

I use traditional materials like oil paint, charcoal, oil pastels, and colored pencils. Although the materials are traditional, I think it’s important to utilize them when expressing contemporary topics. Using material that has been used throughout the history of art ties my work to a bigger conversation. I like to use oil paint when challenging ideas/social norms perpetuated throughout history that were created with oil paint as well. I make paintings that express feminism, LGBTQ ideas, political/religious imagery, and other aspects of the world that I find interesting. Specifically, I use my work to explore societal expectations within the various realms of gender, sexuality, and individual identities. My current work investigates the differences in how men and women are treated in our society.
